As the current recession (officially dated as having begun in December 2007) grinds on, comparisons to the recession of the early 1980s and even to the Great Depression of the 1930s grow more and more common. And while the depth and duration of this recession are certain to put it in the same category as those two major downturns, there is at least one interesting difference that might hold lessons for a stronger recovery.
