The recession has dealt a hard blow to Richard A. Laurenzi’s business and all his workers.

He told a group of business leaders at the Capitol on Wednesday that he has been forced to lay off five of the 25 employees at his family’s business, Prospect Machine Products Inc., and cut the hours of those that remain.
