State Business Failures Up 17% From Last YearNearly 7,000 Connecticut businesses shut down in the first half of the year, a 17 percent increase from the first half of 2008, but Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz said Monday the rate of failures appears to be lessening, offering “a glimmer of hope” for the future of the state’s economy.
