The Day Connecticut : Cooperation on Jobs Welcomed

The bipartisan unity displayed in Hartford on Monday when the governor and lawmakers from both parties pledged to work together on job creation is a positive sign for Connecticut and in stark contrast to the continuing deadlock in Washington. The combination of consumers’ unquenched demand for new technology and businesses’ application of new technologies, such as cloud computing, to gain efficiencies has given the high tech industry a job growth rate nearly four times faster than the national average since the employment trough was reached in February 2010 (5.1 percent vs. 1.4 percent). The Small Business Machine You Never Knew You Knew

Are you interested in having stable profitable businesses in your area? Guess who has created over 182,000 jobs and has added between $12.19 and $15.17  billion to the economy? Facebook. And according to a study by the University of Maryland; the popular social networking website is a small business machine.

Facebook is continually updating and improving  its new  “app” technology, and these updates are often outsourced to smaller app developers who have more flexibility and time to develop the next “big app.”  Facebook is giving more and more of these up-and-coming app developers the opportunity to innovate and expand their own businesses. This new “app-centric culture” shows that the internet is indeed a viable resource for a business venture.

But the small internet businesses made possible through Facebook and others are limited without access to broadband.  Facebook and other websites like it offer many positive opportunities for businesses such as advertising and customer relationship building – more and more of which is done on the go via mobile connectivity.

It’s hard to deny that the internet has become the way to do business. The question is, is New England going to watch it happen, or are we ready to be a part of the digital transition.  See the full study from the University of Maryland here.
